Setsubun is the day before the beginning of spring in the Japanese lunar calendar and it falls on February 3rd this year.
On Setsubun, people eat fortune rolls (Eho-Maki, which is originally a sushi roll) in a traditional way.
When you eat the roll, you have to face the good fortune direction of the year, make a wish and eat the entire roll in silence for good luck.
Our Fortune Roll Cake celebrates the same concept and the lucky direction for this year will be east-northeast.
